Parental Involvement
The Nursery welcomes parents into the classroom. We consider our daily contact to be vitally important. We also welcome parents who would like to work with the children in the Nursery. If you have some spare time and you feel you would like to be involved, please talk to the staff in your child’s room. For example you might like to do something special like gardening, reading stories, or cooking. We can always think of something for you to do! There are also particular occasions, such as outings, when your help can be invaluable.
We hope that all parents will support their children by attending functions and valuing the work the children produce.
The last day of every term is set aside as “Parents’ Day” This is when every parent meets with their child’s key worker to talk about their child’s progress and to celebrate his/her achievements.
Resources we can use
Your help in providing materials that the children can use and explore is invaluable.
Useful materials include: paper and cardboard of all shapes and sizes, boxes, cartons, wood in all forms, sawdust, shavings, materials for display and collages and props for role play such as hats, wigs, jewellery and bags etc.
Old electrical equipment that can be unscrewed and investigated is very popular, old clocks, radios etc.
Anything which is interesting is always appreciated – we can always throw it away if we cannot use it. If in doubt speak to Lizzy.
Weekly Fund
Our money boxes come in various disguises but we hope you will be able to track down the one in your child’s room and contribute a small amount each week to a school fund. 50p would be very helpful, or whatever you can afford. This money is invaluable for buying materials for activities enjoyed by the children, such as flour for cooking, play dough, and fruit & vegetables for grating, chopping and eating.
Exchanging Information
To help keep you regularly informed about what is happening in the nursery and to highlight events which we are holding that you may find of special interest to you, there is a notice board of weekly events displayed at the main entrance and in each classroom. You will also receive newsletters via your child’s classroom. If there is something you wish to know that we haven’t covered feel free to ask one of the staff.
If you feel your child is experiencing problems that are worrying you, please do not hesitate to discuss it with a member of staff. By working together we may be able to offer you and your child some support to help.
Record Keeping
Staff spend lots of time working with your child, observing and extending their play and working with him/her individually, in small and in large groups. Detailed notes are kept recording what your child is learning, how they approach different types of learning, and particularly noting significant achievements made in their learning.
All this information is recorded on their Early Learning Record which is kept in each classroom. This information is regularly shared with you. It is passed on to their next school and class teacher.
