Eating and Food
We encourage the children to try a variety of foods, as you can see from the menu displayed on the notice board in each room.
Water, milk and fruit are always available in the classrooms. Special diets and allergies Please let us know if your child has a special diet, or for a medical reason, such as an allergy, cannot eat some foods. If the allergy is serious and your child needs an Epipen please make sure that you let the key worker know and provide 2 Epipens to be kept in school. Staff are trained to administer Epipens if necessary. To see all allergen information please visit our click here. Dinner Money
Tower Hamlets have increased the price of school meals and they now cost £2.40 a day (£12 a week). Please could you note that meals must be paid for regularly every week. If arrears of more than a week occur, then your child will have to move to packed lunch until the arrears are cleared. We ask that parents pay for dinners at Reception every Monday for the current week (not in arrears). Payment can be by cash or cheque (payable to LBTH). Unfortunately we cannot give you change – so unless you have the correct amount, any extra will be carried forward to the following week as a credit. Many families are entitled to free school meals for their children. To apply for free meals you must go to your local housing benefits office or One Stop Shop. Please let us know in Reception if you are entitled to free school meals, otherwise you will continue to be charged for lunches until you notify us of your circumstances. |
Packed Lunches
We ask that packed lunches should be healthy and not contain fizzy drinks, sweets, chocolate, jam sandwiches etc. Most children enjoy a sandwich, carrot sticks or cucumber, yoghurt, and a piece of fruit. There is always water available and it is better not to provide flavoured drinks. It is best if the lunch is packed in an insulated bag or box in order to keep the food fresh. Please talk to the staff if you would like to know more about this, or click here to see our packed lunch policy. If your child is full time he/she will be expected to stay for school dinner or have packed lunch. You must decide whether to give your child a school dinner or packed lunch when they first start. There is flexibility around this, but we ask that once children are into the routine of staying for lunch that they stick with one or the other for at least half a term. If children change between school dinners and packed lunch on a frequent basis it becomes confusing for all concerned. |
